Holy Atomic Pile, Batman!

I know a lot of people wonder if Silver is somehow related to the main cast, especially after Sonic and the Black Knight where Silver takes on the role of Galahad who is the son of Lancelot(Shadow). So, after posting a fairly recent deviantion regarding a joking head canon, a fellow deviant informed me of a statement that Ian Flynn (who currently writes for the Sonic Archie Comics) made regarding Silver’s possible ancestors:

“…given how much SegaSonic parallels Dragon Ball Z, I’d wager Silver is somehow descended from Shadow and Amy. Don’t ask me how that’d work - I’m just going off the patterns.” (source) (source)

While this obviously doesn’t set anything in stone, I think it’s an interesting theory. Now, this doesn’t mean that Silver is the son of Amy and Shadow (which I’ve seen is how a some of people are taking it). Think about it kids: Silver lives 200 years into the future of our present hedgies world. There’s no way that could simply be the case. But, it’s possible that he’s somehow related to a child of Amy and Shadow’s over the course of several generations, or that Amy and Shadow could have had children with others and then their own offspring created Silver’s ancestors. Or, being that Shadow is immortal, he and one of Amy’s offspring could have had a child somewhere along the line.

Now, a lot of people also theorize that Silver is descended from Rouge and Shadow. There are no hybrid mobians in either Sega Sonic or Archie Sonic, though what seems to be Archie canon (or atleast to me) is that members of two different species can produce offspring, but if the child is male it will be the father’s species and if the child is female it will be the mother’s species. I haven’t seen it any evidence of it being any other way. But as far as Sega Sonic goes, we aren’t sure if different species could produce offspring or not, and the chances are unlikely in my opinion.

I also noticed that some people doubt that Shadow can even reproduce, being an ultimate life form. Well, let’s just look at Shadow’s prototype, the Biolizard. Remember that boss fight, where the huge monster was creating and throwing pink orbs at you? Turns out, according to the game’s strategy guide, that those orbs are actually eggs created through asexual reproduction. And being just a prototype, if the Biolizard has the ability to reproduce I think Shadow would be able to as well.

As for Silver’s powers, he could have inherited his ability to control chaos energy from Shadow, though the ability seems to be common throughout most of the male cast. His psychic abilities could have been inherited from Amy as, according to the manual of Sonic CD, she posses some of her own - the ability to read tarot cards. Her abilities are further referenced to in Sonic Chronicles, where one of her attacks is named “Tarot Draw”, and in Sonic Battle her abilities are mentioned when Sonic asks how she knew where to find him she replies that “My cards told me you would be here”. It seems to explain her uncanny ability to always find Sonic, even though he’s always on the move.
